Four members of the RUMC staff were recognized at this special event.
On Monday, May 20, Borough President Vito Fossella’s 911 Advisory Committee, held its 30th Annual EMS Awards Breakfast. At the breakfast, four emergency responders from Richmond University Medical Center were among those honored for their commitment to the health and safety of the Staten Island community.
Honored this year from RUMC were James Donnelly, Lead EMT, and Michael Fiore, EMT Intern Coordinator. Both received the prestigious EMT of the Year award. Paramedic of the Year awards were presented to RUMC Paramedic Jeff Brown and posthumously to Paramedic James Barghaan, who passed away last year. His award was accepted on his behalf by his wife, Lead RUMC Paramedic Angela Ciocia.
The annual breakfast is held during National Emergency Medical Services Week, which runs from May 19 to 25. This year marks the 50thanniversary of National EMS Week. Established by President Gerald Ford in 1974, National EMS Service Week honors Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics nationwide for their dedication to caring for others.
William Amaniera, Richmond University Medical Center’s Assistant Vice President of Emergency Services and Public Safety, who has been a member of the committee since its formation, helped with organizing this year’s event.
“These are very prestigious awards, and the candidates are handpicked by leadership based on skills, performance, work ethic, and leadership. Each year two paramedics and two EMTs from each EMS organization on Staten Island are selected. I was very honored to have been selected to serve as the master of ceremony for this event,” Amaniera said
