May 5, 2020 – This morning Staten Island Girl Scout Troop 5527 delivered a sweet surprise to the medical staff at Richmond University Medical Center: Girl Scout cookies. The donation was made possible by contributions from individuals in the community and the Richmond University Medical Center Auxiliary. Over 200 boxes of cookies were donated to RUMC for distribution to the staff.
“This is the sweetest donation we have received,” Rosemarie Stazzone, chief operating officer and chief nurse officer, said. “These girls spend so much time learning about the world through Girl Scouts and for them to take the time to donate these cookie to us will bring a smile to so many faces among our heroes here at RUMC. Thank you the entire troop, their families, and to everyone who participated including our own RUMC Auxiliary members.”
The troop used social media to promote the sale of the cookies since they have been unable to meet since social distancing guidelines went into effect back in March. Over 15 individuals and the RUMC Auxiliary contributed to the cause, making today’s donation possible. The donation included all varieties of the cookies, including the most popular: Thin Mints and Samoas. The donation was accepted by representatives of the hospital’s senior administration and members of the RUMC Auxiliary.
Each box also included a handmade card from the girls in the troop addressed to medical staff, thanking them for saving others and letting them know that the girls consider all of them heroes and role-models.
