Promotion recognizes Franco’s clinical expertise, leadership experience and longstanding commitment to patient care
Richmond University Medical Center (RUMC) has announced the promotion of Fallon Franco, MSN, RN, to Associate Director of Nursing for its Emergency Department. Franco, a registered nurse with more than 10 years of nursing experience, has spent much of her career providing emergency care and advancing through nursing leadership roles at RUMC.
Franco began her nursing career in medical-surgical/oncology nursing before transitioning to the Emergency Department, where she continued developing as both a clinician and leader. Since joining RUMC in 2016, Franco has served in several positions, including Staff Nurse, Assistant Nurse Manager, Nurse Educator, and Clinical Nurse Supervisor.
“Fallon has consistently demonstrated the clinical expertise, leadership and commitment to patient care that are essential in a fast-paced Emergency Department,” said RUMC’s Chief Nursing Officer and Senior Vice President Christine Mahoney, said. “Her growth within RUMC is a reflection of her dedication to our patients, her colleagues and the Staten Island community. I am confident Fallon will continue to strengthen our Emergency Department and support our nursing team in this important leadership role.”
In her new position, Franco will help lead the nursing team within RUMC’s Hon. James P. Molinaro Emergency Department, a 35,000-square-foot facility that opened in 2024 and provides emergency care for more than 55,000 patients annually. RUMC is an American College of Surgeons-verified Level I Adult Trauma Center and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, with the current verification extended through 2029. RUMC was the first medical facility in New York City to achieve the dual trauma designation in 2013.
The Emergency Department provides comprehensive adult and pediatric emergency care and includes dedicated trauma, cardiac and stroke care capabilities, pediatric treatment rooms, multiple isolation rooms and an expanded ambulance receiving area. RUMC is also a New York State-designated Stroke Center and has received national recognition for its stroke and cardiac care services.
Franco earned associate and bachelor’s degrees in nursing from CUNY-College of Staten Island and a Master of Science in Nursing Leadership and Management from Western Governors University. Her combination of clinical experience, education and progressive leadership responsibilities has shaped her approach to staff development, operational leadership and patient care.
Franco’s connection to RUMC and the community extends beyond her professional career. Growing up on Staten Island and in the neighborhood surrounding the medical center, Franco’s decision to pursue nursing was influenced by her mother, an Emergency Department nurse, and by the care her grandfather received from RUMC nurses during the final months of his life following a lymphoma diagnosis. Those experiences helped shape Franco’s commitment to nursing and serving the community where she was raised.
“I’m incredible grateful for the opportunity to step into the role of Associate Director of Nursing for the Emergency Department,” Franco said. “RUMC has played such an important role in both my personal life and my nursing career, which makes this promotion especially meaningful to me. I’m excited to continue working alongside our incredible Emergency Department team as we provide exceptional care to the community we serve.”
In her new role, Franco will continue to help guide the Emergency Department’s nursing team while supporting a collaborative, fair and accountable environment focused on maintaining high standards of patient care.
