Philip Otterbeck, MD

Dr. Philip E. Otterbeck 

Dr. Otterbeck is a native Staten Islander who was born at RUMC when it was known as St. Vincent’s Hospital. Dr. Otterbeck graduated from New York University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and a minor in Russian and Slavic Studies. He earned his Doctor of Medicine Degree from SUNY-Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, where he also completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in diabetes, endocrinology, and metabolism. As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Otterbeck’s primary focus will be to assess institutional and community needs with the goal of expanding and enhancing quality and best practice clinical services both on the hospital campus and throughout Staten Island. He will also assist in enhancing the hospital’s graduate medical education programs, ensuring that students, residents, and fellows are exposed to the best available evidence-based medicine and cutting-edge technology.

In addition to maintaining a large private practice, Dr. Otterbeck is also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at SUNY-Downstate Medical Center and an Adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai, St. George’s University, and American University of Antigua. Dr. Otterbeck will also continue to serve as Chair of RUMC’s Department of Medicine and its Chief of Endocrinology.

Dr. Otterbeck continues to call Staten Island home along with his wife Victoria and their two children, Ava Grace and Philip Thomas.
