Gamblers Treatment Program
The Gamblers Treatment Program has been providing outpatient treatment to New Yorkers struggling with problem gambling since 1982. We are proud to be the longest standing outpatient gambling treatment program in New York State. The program offers clients comprehensive therapeutic services to gamblers 16-years of age and older (in-person and via Telehealth) including psychiatric assessment, individual, marital and family therapy, medication management, and crisis intervention.
The program is staffed with licensed clinicians, credentialed problem gambling counselors and psychiatric/medical personnel who are experts in the treatment of gambling disorders.
In many cases, problem gambling does not occur in isolation. It often occurs in combination with a range of other co-morbid issues, including depression, anxiety, alcohol and drug issues, financial hardship, relationship issues and legal problems. Our staff of seasoned therapists are experienced in treating gambling disorder within the context of this psychological perspective, along with the emotional and family problems that accompany them.
Using evidenced-based and cognitive behavioral strategies, staff focus on cognitions that fuel gambling behavior with the goal of breaking down distorted perceptions, especially those regarding money and its relationship to necessary resources.
Treatment also aims to help build skills to manage personal and environmental triggers. Clinicians help clients build basic financial plans as part of therapy, helping develop restitution plans, financial protection strategies, create realistic budgets, and limit access to funds (as required). The program also offers treatment to significant others, including spouses, parents and children affected by a loved one’s gambling problem.
The Gamblers Treatment Program is located at 1130 South Avenue, 2nd floor, Staten Island, New York 10314. We are open Monday through Friday and have late hours on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
