Clinical Rotations

Clinical Rotations are designed based on year of training and also in keeping with ACGME requirements and the goal of ensuring that all graduating residents meet all necessary training requirements to sit for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology certification examinations at the end of their training.

PGY1:

  • 4 months of general medicine
  • 1-2 months of neurology
  • 1-2 months of emergency psychiatry
  • 4-6 months of inpatient psychiatry

PGY2: Rotations are in the following services

  • Inpatient Psychiatry
  • Emergency psychiatry night
  • Emergency Psychiatry day
  • Consultation-Liaison psychiatry
  • Neurology (if necessary)
  • Geriatric Psychiatry (if necessary)

PGY3:

  • 12 months continuous outpatient clinic rotation (may include addiction clinic rotation)

PGY4:

  • 2 months Child Psychiatry
  • 1 month Addiction Psychiatry
  • 1 month Geriatric psychiatry
  • 2 months electives in any subspecialty
  • 1-3 months Inpatient Psychiatry as Junior Attending
  • Selective rotations including C-L psychiatry, addiction and research

In addition to the rotations above, residents can also take advantage of training and experience in some unique programs such as the Mobile Crisis Team and Gamblers’ Treatment Program. The inpatient rotation includes active participation in ECT treatment of patients with varying psychiatric diagnoses. Residents on outpatient rotation are trained and participate in TMS therapy for refractory major depressive illness and soon for OCD treatment as well.
