Advanced Diagnostic Care

For patients who have not been diagnosed or wish to get a second opinion, Richmond University Medical Center offers a full range of laboratory services, as well as imaging, including:

Radiation Therapy

This form of cancer treatment uses high-energy radiation to damage the DNA inside tumor cells. Radiation therapy at Richmond University Medical Center employs advanced medical technology, including:

  • Linear accelerator (LINAC) for external beam radiation treatment
  • High dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy, a form of internally delivered radiation

Breast Cancer

The Richmond University Medical Center Breast and Women’s Center offers state-of-the-art breast imaging technology. Breast imaging services include:

  • 3D diagnostic and screening mammography
  • Breast ultrasound
  • Stereotactic breast biopsy
  • Ultrasound-guided breast biopsy
  • Breast MRI and MRI biopsy (located offsite at 355 Bard Avenue)

The Breast and Women’s Center is located at 1161 Victory Boulevard. In addition to imaging, the center has a breast surgery practice providing consultations and patient navigation. The center takes an integrative approach to cancer care, offering services including:

  • Consultations and evaluations for breast cancer and benign breast disease
  • Evaluation and surveillance for high-risk patients
  • Genetic testing
  • Multidisciplinary, expert cancer treatment planning
  • Lumpectomy (breast preserving surgery)
  • Nipple-sparing mastectomy
  • Immediate reconstruction for mastectomy
  • Oncoplastic lumpectomy and mastectomy for optimal cosmetic results
  • Navigation services, including patient support and care coordination
  • Access to research and clinical trials

Colon Cancer

Sometimes referred to as colorectal cancer, this form of cancer develops when growths called polyps develop in the inner lining of the colon and change over time. Colon cancer is very treatable if detected early. At Richmond University Medical Center, patients can receive recommended colon cancer screenings, as well as treatment if colon polyps or other abnormalities are detected.

Lung Cancer

Lung cancer typically develops in the bronchi (airways) or the air sacs inside the lungs. Often caused by smoking, lung cancer is not always symptomatic in the early stages. The Oncology Department at Richmond University Medical Center offers comprehensive lung cancer treatment, including surgical removal. Lung cancer screenings are also available for high-risk patients.

Thyroid Cancer

The thyroid is a small gland located in the neck that produces and releases hormones to regulate many bodily functions. Early signs of thyroid cancer might include difficulty swallowing, neck pain, or a visible lump. Richmond University Medical Center provides thyroid cancer treatment for several forms of this disease, including:

  • Anaplastic thyroid cancer
  • Differentiated thyroid cancer
